Run-D.M.C. is a pioneering hip-hop group formed in Hollis, Queens, New York City, in 1981, consisting of members Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and DJ Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. They are credited with bringing hip-hop into the mainstream and are considered one of the most influential groups in the history of rap music.

The group's self-titled debut album, released in 1984, featured the ground-breaking single "It's Like That," which showcased their innovative blend of rap and rock elements. Their 1986 album, Raising Hell, was a significant commercial success and included iconic tracks like "Walk This Way," a collaboration with Aerosmith that helped bridge the gap between rock and hip-hop, introducing rap music to a broader audience.

Run-D.M.C. was known for their distinctive style, which combined street fashion with bold imagery and an energetic sound characterized by powerful beats and clever lyrics. They were among the first hip-hop acts to achieve multi-platinum status and played a crucial role in establishing hip-hop as a dominant genre in popular music.

Throughout their career, the group received numerous accolades, including being the first hip-hop act to earn a Grammy Award and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. They also paved the way for future generations of hip-hop artists, influencing the genre's evolution and popularizing the use of sampling in music.

Tragically, Jam Master Jay was murdered in 2002, but Run-D.M.C.'s legacy continues to thrive, and they remain celebrated for their contributions to music, fashion, and culture. Their innovative approach and enduring impact on hip-hop solidify their place as icons in music history.
