Blondie is an American rock band founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein in 1974. Known for their eclectic musical style, which incorporates elements of punk, new wave, disco, and pop, Blondie became a pivotal force in the late 1970s and early 1980s music scene. The band's original line-up included Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, Clem Burke (drums), Gary Valentine (bass), and Jimmy Destri (keyboards).

Blondie gained prominence with their self-titled debut album, "Blondie" (1976), and their follow-up "Plastic Letters" (1978), but their breakthrough came with the release of "Parallel Lines" in 1978. This album featured the hit singles "Heart of Glass," "One Way or Another," and "Hanging on the Telephone," blending punk energy with pop sensibilities and disco rhythms. "Heart of Glass," in particular, became a massive hit, reaching number one in several countries and showcasing the band's versatility.

Their subsequent albums, "Eat to the Beat" (1979) and "Autoamerican" (1980), continued their success, with hits like "Dreaming," "Atomic," and "The Tide Is High." Blondie also made history with the single "Rapture," which became the first song featuring rap vocals to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Blondie disbanded in 1982 but reunited in the late 1990s, releasing "No Exit" in 1999. The album included the hit single "Maria," which marked their comeback and demonstrated their enduring appeal. They continued to release new music and tour, with albums such as "The Curse of Blondie" (2003), "Panic of Girls" (2011), "Ghosts of Download" (2014), and "Pollinator" (2017).

Debbie Harry's distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence, combined with Chris Stein's innovative guitar work, have been central to Blondie's enduring success. The band's ability to seamlessly blend different musical genres has made them influential in both the punk and new wave movements.

Blondie's impact on popular music is significant, with their pioneering approach to genre-blending and their string of iconic hits. They have sold over 40 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Their legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans.
