Anthrax

Anthrax is an American thrash metal band formed in 1981 in New York City. The band is considered one of the "Big Four" of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Known for their aggressive musical style and pioneering contributions to the genre, Anthrax has had a significant impact on the heavy metal scene.

The band was founded by guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. Over the years, Anthrax has seen numerous line-up changes, but Scott Ian has remained a constant member. Other notable members have included drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, and vocalists Joey Belladonna and John Bush.

Anthrax's breakthrough came with their 1985 album "Spreading the Disease," followed by the highly influential "Among the Living" (1987), which helped define the thrash metal genre with its fast tempos, complex guitar work, and socially conscious lyrics. The band's unique sound often incorporates elements of hardcore punk and heavy metal, setting them apart from their contemporaries.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Anthrax achieved commercial success with albums like "State of Euphoria" (1988) and "Persistence of Time" (1990). They also gained attention for their collaboration with the hip-hop group Public Enemy on the track "Bring the Noise," which was a pioneering fusion of rap and metal.

Despite fluctuations in popularity and several line-up changes, Anthrax has remained active and continues to tour and release new music. Their later albums, such as "Worship Music" (2011) and "For All Kings" (2016), have been well-received by both fans and critics, reaffirming their status as one of thrash metal's enduring acts.
